Well, Wimbledon & the EURO are done for the Summer, but the eKart Championship is still underway. And the best thing about it? We have our favorite contender going for it all, race after race: Anelisse Ionascu, the only girl in her MiniWatt league.

This weekend we had the third race of he season, in Bacau, with the track inverted for the first time. High hopes and expectations all around. With every practice and every race, the kids are getting stronger and smarter, so the battles are more and more interesting as well.

Case in point, the Qualifications. There were 4 laps to settle the starting order and it was all incredibly tight. There was barely anything between the first 3 racers:

So Anelisse kicked off her First Final of the day from the second spot. And surely enough she wanted more. Unciuleanu managed however to continue his solid form that he showed in the first couple of races of the season. He held on well, despite Anelisse’s best efforts to overtake him wherever the opportunity arose. Looking over her shoulder, there was Pisica, a racer who’s been progressing nicely as well. However, the girl with the dragon mentality left nothing to chance and fenced him off several times. She finished at #2 and was ready to end the day in style.

However, the Second Final of the day turned out to be trickier than expected. As usual, the racers start with the order inverted, so Anelisse having finished 2nd in the First Final, started at #4. The goal here is to challenge the winners and see how they fare as outsiders.

It was Tariceanu who started first and it was surprising to see him battle well and win the final. Unciuleanu took off well and lap after lap he went from last to second. Rusu came in 3rd, Pisica 4th and Anelisse Ionascu finished the race at number.

When all was said and done, Anelisse grabbed another podium this season (3rd place). While sometimes disappointing, consistency is a privilege and an excellent source of learning so we’re very proud of her.

On to the next one, when hopefully the heat will back off and wunderkind Anelisse will get her P1 of the season. Bucharest, Calea Victoriei, the month of August. Let’s gooooo!
