TL;DR: The Business League attribution system ensures that marketers engaged in retargeting do NOT overwrite the cookies of other marketers.

Retargeting is one of the most widely used traffic sources globally in affiliate marketing due to the similar business model of pay-per-conversion.

In the past, we collaborated with marketers who operated retargeting systems, but technological limitations did not allow for the complete avoidance of other marketers’ traffic, leading to partial overwriting of their traffic.

As a result, it became necessary to halt these collaborations. The plan was to develop the Business League attribution system to prevent any form of cookie overwriting by marketers engaged in retargeting.

This summer, we implemented a system that allows exactly this functionality. Now, we can write and read up to six marketers in any attribution cookie. Conversion attribution to retargeting marketers will only occur if they are the sole marketers eligible for the commission.

If the commission can be attributed to any other marketer in that cookie, it will be done so, even if the user who placed the order interacted most recently with a retargeting marketer.

As a brief reminder, here are the attribution conditions:

  1. The marketer must be active.
  2. The marketer must have an active relationship with the merchant.
  3. The user’s interaction with the marketer’s link must occur within the attribution period.

If the retargeting marketer is the only one in the cookie who meets the above three conditions, then the conversion will be attributed to them.

In conclusion, we will resume collaboration with retargeting marketers, confident that they will not jeopardize the investments of other marketers. The Business League attribution system ensures that marketers engaged in retargeting do not overwrite the cookies of other marketers.
